EAN-8 Standard Sizes
The official GS1 specification defines the ten standard sizes SC0–SC9 for EAN-8. The dimensions of the most commonly used size SC2 are already set as default in the generator. If needed, choose another standard size from the table below, or enter custom width and height.
| Height (mm) | Width (mm) | Width + Add-On 2 | Width + Add-On 5 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SC0 | 17.70 | 21.87 | 28.61 | 35.90 |
| SC1 | 19.18 | 24.06 | 31.48 | 39.50 |
| SC2 | 21.31 | 26.73 | 34.98 | 43.89 |
| SC3 | 23.44 | 29.40 | 38.48 | 48.28 |
| SC4 | 25.57 | 32.08 | 41.98 | 52.67 |
| SC5 | 28.77 | 36.09 | 47.22 | 59.25 |
| SC6 | 31.97 | 40.10 | 52.47 | 65.84 |
| SC7 | 35.16 | 44.10 | 57.72 | 72.42 |
| SC8 | 39.42 | 49.45 | 64.71 | 81.20 |
| SC9 | 42.62 | 53.46 | 69.96 | 87.78 |

OCR-B – The Standard Font for EAN-8 Barcodes
For the human-readable EAN-8 number below the barcode, our generator uses the font OCR-B by default. This is recommended by GS1 for all barcodes in the UPC/EAN family, including EAN-8. Additional fonts are available for selection. The Text Offset from Symbol setting allows adjusting the spacing between the human-readable number and the barcode symbol. Negative values can also be used to compensate for excessive white space.
EAN-8 Barcodes as Vector or Raster Images
Vector formats PDF, EPS, SVG: Coordinates are stored internally with a precision of six decimal places. All three vector formats support transparent backgrounds. The human-readable EAN-8 number is converted to outlines, so no fonts are required. PDF and EPS are functionally equivalent; both support CMYK and RGB color models. EPS files include an embedded TIFF preview for DTP applications that do not provide native EPS support.
Raster formats PNG, BMP, JPG: The selected DPI value is stored in the file header, ensuring that resolution and physical dimensions in millimeters are contained directly in the file and can be correctly interpreted by graphics applications. The barcode bars are precisely aligned to the target resolution, which prevents aliasing and other unwanted effects. The resulting barcode graphics can still be printed even on low-resolution printers (e.g. 203 or 300 DPI) without loss of quality. The PNG format supports transparent barcode backgrounds.
